Review: I’m a sucker for documentaries. We cover them here all the time on DVD Legion. I’m really into history and particularly ancient history. We have an IMAX theater here in town at the Zoo, but we never get out to see those specials in-theater. I was really interested to see how they would translate into a high-definition blu-ray experience.

The documentary is narrated by Christopher Lee. I’ve mentioned more than once on this site how much I love Mr. Lee’s work. The 39 minute documentary is a visually stunning look into ancient Egypt with a mixture of re-enacted history and on location shots.

The addition of the 3D to this feature is fun!  There is little to no ghosting to this added-on tech and it really helps the documentary to pop.  It most certainly made the kids want to watch it more and they learned a lot thanks to the fun of 3D!

The video is cropped to 1.78:1 from its original 1.44:1 from the IMAX screenings and looks absolutely amazing. I was concerned that perhaps it wouldn’t translate well, but its really phenominal. I highly recommend this one for any fan of Egypt, history and even those that home school or just love a visually entertaining documentary.
Interest Range: Documentary, Egypt
