Gremlins I & II on Blu-Ray Reviews!

You can own these blu-rays today

Gremlins Synopsis: Gremlins is a wildly original roller-coaster ride of hilarious mischief. One minute your hair will stand on end, the next you'll hold your sides with laughter at the havoc these supposedly gentle furballs create when the rules surrounding their care and feeding are inadvertently broken one fateful Christmas. Written by Chris Columbus and directed by Joe Dante, Gremlins unleashes special effects that dazzle and enchant and merriment that lingers in the memory. Blu-ray disc edition features over 10 minutes of additional scenes, a making-of featurette, two commentaries, a photo/storyboard gallery and theatrical trailers.

Gremlins 2 Synopsis:  The follow up feature to the cult hit Gremlins 1. Billy Peltzer and Kate Beringer move to New York City and meet up with their Mogwai friend, Gizmo, when a series of accidents creates a new generation of diverse gremlins. Billy, Kate, and Gizmo must once again use all their experience to prevent another catastrophe.

Review: The Gremlins franchise is one of the best to come out of the 1980s.  The follow-up film was a great example of what a sequel could be!  It built on the first film with returning characters and expanded on the mythos.  The films, which center around the lovable Gizmo and the strict rules that must be followed to keep him from spawning green, gooey and gross Gremlins!  This is the first time we can own these two films on blu-ray, high-definition.  Often times these vintage films don't transfer well to blu-ray (Ghostbusters) and can be a major disappointment.  So, should you upgrade from DVD to blu-ray on these new releases?

The simple answer....YES!  The transfer into high-definition is clear and crisp.  There is no noticable grain and the colors really pop.  In the first Gremlins we have a lot of dark scenes and the high-def really makes them stand out, so that you can catch more detail.  Gremlins 2 is a little brighter overall, and the dynamics of the Gremlins and their bright colors (especially the girl gremlin) really pops!  This is one of those instances when an upgrade is not only warranted, its absolutely necessary!
