Music Review: Tweaker - Call The Time Eternity

About the Album: Chris Vrenna garnered a name for himself in the early days of Nine Inch Nails, and later produced and co-produced various artists (including Marilyn Manson, Rasputina, Xzibit, Lords of Acid) and provided remixes for U2 and Weezer (among others). In 2001, Vrenna composed the dark, eerie instrumental soundtrack for American McGee s Alice. It was also in 2001 that Vrenna unveiled his tweaker project. Best described as a blend of alternative pop/rock and electronica, tweaker blends an intriguing mix of influences and atmospheres. Dark and moody, call the time eternity is an electronic fever dream ride through a late night breakdown. Machine-gun staccato percussion blends with strings and synths to create a cohesive work.

Our Take:  Our review today is on the third offering from former NIN and Marilyn Manson bandmate Chris Vrenna's "Tweaker".  The album begins with the instrumental track "Ponygrinder", which is representative of exactly what I would expect from Chris Vrenna, being a member of Nine Inch Nails in the 90s industrial heyday.  The beats are well placed and catchy, but with a dark tone that really sets the mood for the rest of the CD.  The album goes on to be an almost complete win with guest vocals from the great Jessicka Addams, former front lady of Jack off Jill and Scarling, and kaRIN of Collide!  These strong female presences on the album really give Tweaker a diverse feel.  I found myself wishing that Jessicka was a pernament vocal contribution.   Tweaker also delves into a great industrial-flavored cover of the Phil Collins hit "I Don't Care Anymore".  Overall, this is a fantastic CD laced with well-thought out electronics, which range from the slightly eccentric (track #8 "this is ridiculous") hard-hitting to melodic and dark.  If you're a fan of Vrenna's past musical endeavours, then Tweaker will no doubt be your thing.  We definately recommend this album.
